the longhand rally
Letter writers, rally up!
For those who miss their childhood penpals – or worse, never had one – there’s a support group. We’re called The Longhand Rally, and we love to write, send, and receive all sorts of hand-crafted correspondence. Whether your style is a be-feathered dipping pen scratched on creamy paper or typewritten short stories pounded out on homemade postcards, we’d love to have you.
Simply send me an email with your name and mailing address, and I’ll add you to the pool of letter writers from which penpals will be drawn, Secret Santa style. You can keep your penpal and write as often as you like or, if you’re so inclined, you can let me know that you’d like an additional penpal, and you’ll be sent another.
Really, this is all in good fun. Penpals will be chosen randomly, and the pool is never closed. You may glean as many or as few penpals as you wish! Just remember, it’s good manners to send a letter for each one you receive, and to reply in a timely manner.
You can use the hashtag #TheLonghandRally on Twitter, if it so pleases you.
Or don’t you like to write letters. I do because it’s such a swell way to keep from working and yet feel you’ve done something.
